What to do in case of a heart attack?

- Cough repeatedly & vigorously
- Take a deep breath before each cough, which should be kept deep &
prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest - Keep a nitroglycerine tablet under the tongue
- Every cough & breath must be repeated every two seconds
continuously, until the heart starts beating normally again


What to do in case of a physical assault?

- Be willing to act & don't show that you are afraid - Shout, Resist, Fight.
- Use things around you as weapons e.g. bottle, kitchen utensils, stone,
sand, brick, etc… - Stick your fingers in his eyes and/or kick his groin with your knees


What to do in case of choking by swallowing?

- If the victim can cough, just reassure & observe, if not then get behind him
- Put your arms round the waist of the person from behind. Place your
fist against the victim's abdomen, little above the navel - Hold lightly & lean him slightly forward
- Grasp your fist with the other hand & press it to the victim's abdomen,
using 4 quick upward thrusts. In case of an infant, turn him upside down


What to do in case of burns?

- Gently pour water over the burns. Place the cleanest available cloth
material such as sterile gauge, clean sheets or a T-shirt over all the burnt
areas & again gently pour water over, keeping the material wet - Remove smoldering cloth, only if it is NOT stuck to the skin
- Carefully remove clothing or jewellery that may constrict during swelling
- Make the patient lie down. Make sure his head & chest are a little
lower than the rest of his body. Raise his legs if possible


What to do in case of an electric
shock?
- Switch off the main/all switches

land line - Push the victim away with a wooden substance like a
rolling pin, bat, stick, etc… - Monitor the victim's breath & control his bleeding, if any.
If he is not responding, perform artificial breathing - Ensure that the victim's body temperature is not in the
extremes
i.e. too low or high

Resuscitation?

- BLOW - Let the patient lie down on his back. Pinch nose & cover
the mouth with yours & blow until you see the chest rise - PUMP - Place both your palms on the patient's chest
between nipples & interlock fingers. Begin
compressions. Push the chest down two inches, 15 times
